Get Trained - Basics

A little first aid can go a long way. Don't get caught yelling "MEDIC!" to an empty room. Hero up and be there for people in medical emergencies by learning skills like controlling minor bleeding, making sure someone still has an airway and can breath, the new hands-only CPR method, and properly caring for someone until first responders arrive.

Cal Recreational Sports offers a wide range of First Aid and CPR courses. All instructors are American Red Cross certified.

If you found someone having a cardiac emergency on campus, would you know what to do?

An urban survival expert knows how to take advantage of the AED (automated external defibrillator) units that are available in many campus buildings. AEDs are able to detect heart rhythm and send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. They are safe to operate once you have been properly trained, and could help you save someone's life.
